Real-time client data for commercial banking

Banking is the industry I know best. Before founding HNZ Consulting, I spent six years at a major Canadian bank, first as a senior Salesforce developer, then as technical lead. I evolved, led and built the integrations and monitoring that connect its commercial-banking Salesforce platform to the bank’s core systems and data lake.

The challenge

One client picture, across many systems

Salesforce had to become a secure integration hub for commercial banking teams, without disrupting the banking systems that hold the authoritative client data.

01

Manual data extracts

Admins exported CRM data by hand for every team that needed it, and requests kept growing.

02

Many consumers

Downstream systems needed CRM changes quickly, without fragile point-to-point links.

03

Hard to diagnose

Integration failures needed to be visible in one place, fast.

04

Legacy automation

Years of workflows and process builders had piled up, making the platform harder to maintain.

05

Manual triage

Commercial cases arrived by email and had to be sorted and routed by hand.

06

Inconsistent client data

Client addresses, contact methods and identifiers had to stay aligned with the bank’s master records, across every system.

What I built and led

Integrations I evolved, led and built

10Salesforce objects streamed to Kafka
3solutions built from scratch: the Kafka integration, plus Splunk and Datadog monitoring

6years on the platform

Master data sync

Evolved the Salesforce–MDM sync with teammates, keeping client addresses, contact methods and identifiers consistent with the bank’s master records.

Event streaming

Led the Kafka integration from scratch: CRM changes published through Platform Events to the bank’s data lake and downstream systems, replacing manual extracts. A reusable foundation the team then extended to 10 Salesforce objects.

Integration monitoring

Built Splunk and Datadog monitoring from scratch, so integration failures are spotted and diagnosed centrally, before users report them.

Technical lead

Led 3 other developers in a squad with admins and a product owner: coding standards, code reviews and deployments with AutoRABIT.

I also contributed across case management, opportunity flows, Flow automation and security.

Business value

A CRM the bank’s systems can rely on

Consistent client data

The CRM stays aligned with the authoritative client records.

No more manual extracts

Teams get CRM data from the data lake instead of waiting for admin exports, even as demand grows.

Decoupled systems

Downstream applications consume events without direct dependencies on Salesforce.

Faster diagnosis

Integration issues surface in one place, in real time.
